A 168-year-old downtown Dayton mansion has new energy efficiency upgrades.
The Dayton Woman’s Club has upgraded its headquarters, a mansion at 225 N. Ludlow St., with a new lighting system powered by LED lighting, which uses 60 percent less energy and lasts up to five times longer than previous lighting. The club uses the building as its headquarters and hosts a number of events and lunches there, bringing people to downtown.
“One of our goals is the preservation and maintenance of our historic building, and upgrading our lighting systems will enable us to further this mission,” said Deb McNeff, president of the Woman’s Club of Dayton Foundation, the nonprofit development arm of the DWC. “The savings that result from this relatively simple project will enable us to make additional improvements over time to ensure our building lasts another century or more.”
Energy Optimizers USA helped the club become a member of the Dayton Regional Green sustainable business certification. The $15,000 project was paid for through several funds overseen by the Dayton Foundation and it’s expected to save the group $1,300 a year in energy savings, according to a release.
The mansion, which is on the National Registrar of Historic Places, has been the home of the 100-year-old Woman’s Club for some time. It’s next to where the $7 million Brownstones on Second development is going up.
