Rusty Clifford Named Ohio School Superintendent of the Year

Posted from the Dayton Daily News

Rusty Clifford, the superintendent of West Carrollton City Schools, was named 2013 Ohio Superintendent of the Year by the Buckeye Association of School Administrators.

Jerry Klenke, deputy executive director for BASA, said Clifford stood out in each of the four criteria used for selection: leadership for learning, communications, professionalism and community involvement.

“His credentials and record speak for itself,” said Klenke, referencing Clifford’s work with the district and region.

Clifford was nominated for the honor by the West Carrollton Board of Education, Treasurer Ryan Slone and Assistant Superintendent Larry Campbell.

“Those of us who’ve been around here for a while said, in the last 14 years, this district has gone from total chaos to running on all cylinders,” Campbell said. “And the person really responsible for that is the coach.”

About Energy Optimizers, USA

Energy Optimizers, USA is a vendor-neutral, full service energy efficiency and conservation company that specializes in helping schools and government agencies reduce energy usage and cost.  Services include energy audits, lighting system upgrades, HVAC system enhancements, building automation and controls, building envelope improvements, renewable energy, and energy education programs.

Energy Optimizers, USA  is a family owned business founded in 2009 by Greg Smith.  Prior to launching the company, Smith worked for Waibel Energy Systems/Trane as a K-12 School Energy Specialist for 12 years.  It was during this time, Smith came up with the idea to provide vendor-neutral energy conservation services to school districts throughout Ohio, without any geographic boundaries.

The company got its start at the Entrepreneur’s Center on Monument Avenue in a cubicle, then moved to an office in Tipp City.  Greg’s first major sale was with Eaton Community Schools in November 2010 to implement a $1.9 million energy conservation project.  The first two associates came on board in January 2011, with more joining the company throughout the year.   In June 2011, the company purchased its own building in Monroe Township in Miami County.  This move enabled the company to have on-site warehouses for lighting materials and office space for the growing number of associates.  Energy Optimizers, USA has exceeded $20 million in sales of energy projects with no change orders, won the Dayton Business Journal “Rookie Business of the Year” in 2011, and was a finalist for the BBB Eclipse Integrity Awards in 2012.

The Eaton Community Schools project also enabled the creation of another company — Lighting Optimizers, USA — to implement in-house lighting retrofit services, in order to control costs and quality for customers.   Lighting Optimizers, USA has grown rapidly to a multi-million dollar business with 6 employees and 24 installers.

Why Energy Optimizers, USA calls the region home

The location provides easy access to our client base.   There is a sense of collaboration here, with people willing to help one another in business and for the good of our community.

OEP Wins OANO Nonprofit Excellence Award

We am pleased to announce that our partners with the Ohio Energy Project were recently awarded the Ohio Nonprofit Excellence Award for Central Ohio by the Ohio Association of Nonprofit Organizations. The program also strongly addresses the need to raise public consciousness of the environmental impact of energy production and consumption decisions such as:

  • Reduce demand for electric energy in Ohio homes through installation of home energy efficiency devices and the adoption of home energy conservation measures.
  • Provide outstanding energy efficiency education programs to Ohio teachers, students and families.
  • Promote student leadership with a unique and innovative school-to-home model.
  • Offer quality teacher professional development opportunity in energy efficiency education.
  • Provide effective, informative, and fun curriculum in energy efficiency education that emphasizes the best practices in science education.
  • Evaluate the program by collecting surveys and data to document the effectiveness of the program.

The entire Energy Optimizers, USA team would like to congratulate OEP Executive Director Debby Yerkes as well as her hard working staff on their continued hard work in this area of energy conservation and savings.
