Tipp City, Ohio, July 26th, 2012: Mike McDaniel, Superintendent at Ashland County – West Holmes Career Center announced that the district will be implementing energy conservation projects to reduce energy usage and cost and save taxpayer dollars. To implement these projects without asking for any taxpayer money, the school district is utilizing funding mechanisms through the Ohio School Facilities Commission’s House Bill 264 program.
Energy Savings for Ashland County – West Holmes Career Center
Energy Optimizers, USA has designed the Ashland County – West Holmes Career Center project to include significant energy conservation projects producing a net cash flow of $3,557 a year! The project, with less than an 11 year payback, will reduce the annual CO2 emissions by 207,693 pounds. The annual environmental impact is the equivalent of removing over 27 cars, saving 42 acres of trees, or removing 8 houses from the grid.
The $144,510 project consisted of lighting retrofits, kitchen exhaust automation and the implementation of variable frequency drives, a new air compressor, and an energy education program. Superintendent Mike McDaniel explains that, “Energy Optimizers, USA delivered excellent service from the beginning through the completion of the project.”
Energy Education Program
Energy Optimizers, USA will work with the Career Center to implement an energy education and training program, tied to the curriculum, for students and staff. Activities will include creating and implementing a district-wide energy conservation handbook incorporating suggested student and staff behaviors and expectations that directly affect energy usage, and having the school districts qualify for and become recognized by the Federal Energy Star Energy Efficient Buildings Program.
Greg Smith, President of Energy Optimizers, USA, stated, “We are extremely excited to be working with the Career Center to not only save them a substantial amount of money, but also to save the environment and provide their students with a unique educational opportunity and possibly springboard interested students into the field of energy efficiency and/or the renewable energy field. We will also be providing a graduating student from the district interested in the energy and/or engineering field with a $1,000 scholarship during the 2012-2013 school year.”
