Controls and Building Automation

Energy Optimizers, USA prides itself on being a leading company in today’s energy conservation and savings industry.

With no vendor affiliations (vendor-neutral), our goal is simply to provide the best services to our customers while delivering the best possible energy savings options. We have worked with a variety of vendors, and, if you desire, we will assist you in selecting one that is best suited to your needs.

Controls and automation maximize the energy efficiency of your electrical systems. We will determine the thermal loads and their location, frequency, and concentration, which we will use to set up comfort zones, temperature constraints, and usage of ambient (outside) air temperature. This approach allows the district to only pay for what they need versus paying to heat and cool the entire building.

In addition to this cost-saving approach, we use devices such as economizers, variable frequency drives, kitchen exhaust regulators, and combustion-maximizers. These devices reduce energy costs.

Economizers

Economizers allow school districts and government agencies to utilize the outside air to raise or lower the inside temperature without engaging use of a standard heating or cooling system. Computers determine when economizers are to be used and for how long. Typically, they pull in outside air overnight to alter the inside air temperature of the building. This system only requires the energy to move air. The load on the heating and cooling system is drastically reduced.

Variable Frequency Drives

Variable frequency drives allow motors and fans to rotate at slower speeds. This reduces the electrical load as well as the overcooling and overheating associated with moving large volumes of air in relatively low-temperature fluctuations. This technology can also be used in kitchen ventilation systems.

Kitchen Exhaust Fans

Kitchen exhaust fans are typically turned on at the beginning of the school day and continue to run most of the day. Particulate measurement systems measure the actual exhaust air quality and increase or reduce the speed of the exhaust fans to maximize the quality of the air. This system allows the best air quality at the lowest energy cost.

Combustion-Maximizers

A combustion maximizer increases the efficiency of gas combustion systems. Carbon monoxide is a dangerous byproduct of improper ventilation in combustion chambers. The typical safety precaution is to increase the oxygen intake to negate any possibility of CO over-production. However, this process is extremely inefficient and increases utility costs. Combustion-maximizers, on the other hand, measure the exiting air quality and adjust the intake to ensure the right amount of oxygen to minimize CO production and maximize energy savings.

PC Power Management

To introduce further energy savings, we also offer PC Power Management for computer labs and office computers located throughout the facility. It is not uncommon for a district to have over 100 computers, all without a centrally-controlled power management system to control them. This means that each computer is operated individually, leaving the last student the choice of determining the power setting. Though computers have many power-saving options, it has been found that often, these computers are simply left on and in a fully-active state always.

Controlling the computers’ operation at the district network level will ensure that all computers are turned off when not being used, such as at night, over the weekend, and on vacation days. This program will include implementation of an automated computer shutdown/startup control system as well as ongoing management of the automated control system to ensure that it continues to control the system effectively. The combination of each of these components should help to reduce the energy use from computers at the facilities.
